What is “Emotionally Literate”?
Is a tool to enable young people to explore healthy relationships. We have created a tactile and colourful resource with a selection of practical workshops and exercises to promote understanding, self-reflection and empathy.
Who is it for?
The resource is aimed at young people in Key Stage 3 & 4 – aged 11-16. Especially developed to target those who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education or are at risk of being permanently excluded.
What are we offering?
A set of tools for teachers and youth leaders to address the causes of negative behaviour and support students to develop as aspiring and confident young people who can make a positive impact on their own lives and the lives of others. We offer drama, mask and design based workshops.
Delivering to students
Aqueous Humour offers standard and bespoke programmes for young people. We have an experienced delivery team, comfortable working with young people who exhibit difficult behaviour.

CPD for teachers
Is an opportunity for teachers to explore masks as a tool for teaching in the classroom. This is a practical experience where teachers can explore the characters of the masks and start to incorporate our resources into their style of teaching using the lesson plans provided as a starting point.

Emotionally Literate booklet
We have created a booklet with information about Emotional Literacy and how our programme works plus a few taster exercises. If you would like to receive a copy, please contact us.
If you have already received the booklet and are looking for the accompanying downloads, please visit the online resources page.
If you have already been using the exercises in the booklet and would like to leave feedback, please visit the feedback page.
Who was it developed with?
We developed the programme with teachers at Manchester Key Stage 3 PRU and Lever Park SEBD School, Bolton. The young people at these schools have been excluded from mainstream education for a variety of reasons, often violent and abusive behaviours towards their peers and adults working with them. These young people often have difficulty expressing themselves with clarity. Some have issues with anger and low self-image/esteem. This often means they find it extremely difficult to engage and function positively with others.
“Emotionally Literate” is a pilot project initiated by Aqueous Humour in partnership with The Octagon Theatre, Bolton and Awards for All.
